Summary of evaluation
This study assessed the therapeutic benefits and value of taking part in Good Vibrations muisc projects - the study was written up in the Prison Service Journal in March 2007.
Project description
A music-based intervention aimed at improving the well-being of prisoners at risk of self-harm in a single establishment (HMP Peterborough)- run by Good Vibrations, through participating in gamelan workshops.
A Good Vibrations project typically runs as a week-long course for a group of 15 - 20 participants. Most will not have done anything musical before. At the end of the week the group puts on an informal performance.
Key Quote
The music course provided motivation for the development of a respectful and focused group environment, but also for the development of skills with which to achieve this.
